Dialogue meetings
With its partner organisations (IAS and UKREN in the UK) in European countries the European Migration Dialogue is committed to there being a series of conferences at which legal labour migration and other issues can be discussed
Between 1 April 2004 and 30 September 2005, Migration Dialogue Meetings and Round Tables were organised. These meetings could be organised in connection with and can be part of meetings partners regularly organise.
MPG will organise two European Dialogue meetings
Partners will organise two national Dialogue meetings
Associated partners will organise Dialogue meetings or Round Tables
The meetings
Bring together governmental and non-governmental key actors in the fields of immigration and immigrant integration (including MEPs)
Facilitate the exchange of information on activities undertaken by these actors
Analyse developments in the migration and integration fields
Identify best practices and policy priorities
Link national and European agendas
Consider possible proposals for EU policies.
The agenda includes
- Taking stock of developments at national and European Level: main issues and priorities in terms of the
- Justice and Home Affairs agenda
- Social Affairs agenda
- Foreign Affairs agenda
- Issues can include:
- Labour market: immigrant selection, immigrant inclusion, …
- Citizenship: naturalisation, political participation, …
- Enhancing co-operation at national and European level
- Information exchange
- Involvement in consultation mechanisms (e.g. consultations on pending legislation, or formulation of National Action Plans on employment and social inclusion)
- Joint actions, in particular priority activities identified by the EMD at European Dialogue meetings
National Dialogue meetings play an important role in forming and consolidating networks of stakeholders. Agendas will give ample opportunities for networking.
Where appropriate, media representatives can be invited to (parts of) the meeting, and a press release can be prepared. National events and important European or Justice and Home Affairs Councils can be used to link the meeting to current discussions.
A report of the meeting will be produced with a summary in English of max. two pages which will be posted on websites or included in the reports pages of regular publications. The outcome of the meetings will be discussed at the European Dialogue meetings.
